"Dolmen's Terra Firma has been compared to Zoviet France, Sigur Ros, Robert Rich, Steve Roach, Rapoon, etc., but it goes places none of them have ever gone before." - Chain D.L.K.
Dolmen is a collaborative project between visual and sound artist Steven K. Smith and solo ambient/ sound artist Jason Sloan. Started in 2000, the duo began working on "Ritual Awakening". Sloan who is based in Baltimore and Smith who is based in Cleveland, found the long distance collaboration to be challenging yet productive. Dolmen receives it's warm, dark and dense organic sound by the variety of traditional instrumentation as well as electronic analog elements.Since "Ritual Awakening" was released in April 2002, it has received critical acclaim for it's forging of new territory in the dark-tribal-ambient field.
Dolmen is a sonic experience of dense sound walls, minimal ambiance, and tribal fury. Varied and diverse, Dolmen have created their own dark etho-ambient world. The duo have progressed and expanded the soundworlds of Dolmen with their follow up release titled "Terra Firma". Beautiful sound elegance is coupled with dark, punshing ceremonial overtones. Sloan and Smith have set their sights with Terra Firma to redefine the tribal ambient landscape forever.
